Fairhaven is a historic district on the south side of Bellingham, Washington, located about halfway between Seattle and Vancouver, Canada. It is a small village of galleries, restaurants, pottery and woodworking studios and shops, bookstores and other fine shops. A century ago Fairhaven was a major fishing and lumber center, with the world's largest salmon cannery and largest cedar shingle mill located here. |

Today Fairhaven maintains the slow pace and charm of a 19th century village, drawing visitors from far and wide. Fairhaven is the southern terminus of the Alaska Marine Highway ferry system, bringing thousands of visitors annually. New Amtrak and Greyhound terminals deliver many day-trippers from the Seattle and Vancouver, BC areas for an easy and pleasant day's outing. |
| Blessed with a drier climate than Seattle and points south, and located between the quiet waters of Puget Sound and the snow-capped peaks of the Cascades (1-1/2 hour drive to the Mt. Baker summit), Fairhaven is a jumping-off point for Victoria, BC, the San Juan Islands and whale watching trips throughout coastal waters. Fairhaven is also the northern end of famed Chuckanut Drive, the scenic winding highway with spectacular views of Puget Sound and the San Juan Islands. |
